Everyone, please calm down— I’m seeing a storm of posts here and elsewhere concerning the Academy Awards Nominees, lol. I just want to clear up some of the confusion because I’m seeing a lot of the same thing being said.
Concerning The Adventures of Tintin not being nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film: Tintin is not eligible.
Why? The film is by a majority, produced via Motion Capture. In 2010, the Academy rules were amended, and special rule 7 states that films produced by these means do not fall under the requirement for Animation.
Rule 7: Special Rules for the Best Animated Feature Film Award
DEFINITION
An animated feature film is defined as a motion picture with a running time of more than 40 minutes, in which movement and characters’ performances are created using a frame-by-frame technique.  Motion capture by itself is not an animation technique.  In addition, a significant number of the major characters must be animated, and animation must figure in no less than 75 percent of the picture’s running time.

I’m sorry guys, but that’s the rule that is now in place. A bummer, I know, especially since Tintin was absolutely amazing for a MotionCapture based film. Wikipedia has some history concerning the award and makes note concerning the rules and change.
It’s a bitter pill in the case of Tintin, but I think it was sound concerning the separation of MoCap and Frame-By-Frame Animation, be it traditional or computer generated.
We can still get excited it did get the nomination for Best Score :) I loved this film and would love to see it win something.
A great reminder someone mentioned— Tintin did win Best Animated Film at the Golden Globes :D
